If you own a dated, multi-colored, or "faded orange" brick home, painting the exterior is one of the fastest ways to modernize its appearance and boost its market value. But before you hire a crew, you need to know two things: How much will it cost, and will it actually look good?
We can help you answer both.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost to paint a brick house varies significantly based on your location, the size of your home, and the quality of the paint used.
On average, homeowners can expect to pay between $1.50 and $3.00 per square foot of exterior surface area.
- Small Home (1,500 sq ft): $2,500 - $4,500
- Medium Home (2,500 sq ft): $4,000 - $7,500
- Large Home (4,000+ sq ft): $7,000 - $12,000+
Factors That Increase the Cost
- Prep Work: Brick must be meticulously cleaned (power washed) and repaired before painting. If you have crumbling mortar (tuckpointing needed), costs will rise.
- Primer: Brick is highly porous. It requires specialized, high-quality masonry primer to prevent the brick from soaking up the topcoat and to prevent moisture trapping.
- Number of Stories: Two and three-story homes require scaffolding and specialized equipment, increasing labor costs.
