Farrow & Ball Exterior Masonry: Unmatched Luxury

In the world of high-end interior design, Farrow & Ball is a legendary name. Based in Dorset, England, their paints are famous for their incredibly high levels of pigment and rich, chalky finishes that change character as the light shifts throughout the day.

Many homeowners and even some contractors do not realize that they also offer a highly durable Exterior Masonry line. When I am working on historic restorations or ultra-luxury exterior remodels, this is the paint I specify to bring that same luxury aesthetic to the outside of the home.

The Chalky, Flat Finish

Standard exterior paints (even from premium brands like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore) usually have a slight sheen to them (Satin or Eggshell) to help them resist dirt and wash easily.

• Availability: You cannot buy it at a standard hardware store; it must be specially ordered through a specialized Farrow & Ball showroom or authorized stockist.
• Requires Their Primer: To achieve the 15-year guarantee, you are forced to buy their equally expensive Masonry & Plaster Stabilising Primer. Do not skip this step.

• Cost per Gallon: A standard US gallon (which they sell in 5-liter tins, roughly 1.32 gallons) costs approximately $145.00.
• Primer Cost: Their Stabilising Primer costs roughly $80.00 per gallon.
• Coverage: Expect a 5-liter tin to cover roughly 320 to 430 square feet, depending on how porous your brick or stucco is (very dry stucco will drink this paint).
• Total Project: For a 2,000 sq ft stucco home, expect to spend $1,800 to $2,500 on paint and primer alone, not including professional labor.

Iconic Farrow & Ball Exterior Colors

While their palette is smaller than massive corporate brands, every single color is highly curated by designers to work perfectly in natural light.

1. Gentle Cleaning: Never power wash Farrow & Ball Exterior Masonry. Use a soft bristle brush and a mild detergent to gently wash away dirt or algae.
2. Touch-ups: The beautiful thing about an ultra-flat finish is that touch-ups blend in flawlessly. If a section gets damaged, you can often paint a small patch with a brush without having to repaint the entire wall, and it will feather in perfectly.
