Almost all premium fiberglass doors share a dirty little secret: while the front and back skins are made of waterproof fiberglass, the top, bottom, and side edges (the stiles and rails) are often made of standard wood.

• Staining Difficulty: Their woodgrain texture is excellent, but because of the specific fiberglass resin they use, you must use their proprietary stain kits or highly specific gel stains. Standard wood stains will simply wipe off or look like cheap brown paint. I usually recommend having these factory-finished.
• Brand Recognition: They don't have the massive marketing budget of Therma-Tru, so you may have to specifically ask your contractor to source a Plastpro door, as they aren't always stocked at big-box retailers.

Estimated Cost Breakdown

Plastpro sits in the premium, high-performance tier of fiberglass doors, but they are often very aggressively priced for the value they provide. Here are current 2026 estimates from my supplier:

• Door Slab Only: A standard 6-panel or craftsman slab typically costs $400 to $700.
• Pre-Hung Unit: A pre-hung unit (with rot-proof composite jambs) typically costs $800 to $1,400.
• With Decorative Glass: Adding 3/4 or full-lite decorative glass panels will push the price to $1,500 to $2,500.
• Installed Cost: Expect a total installed project cost (door, frame, hardware, and professional carpentry labor) of $1,200 to $3,000+.
