Torginol Flakes: The Secret to a Perfect Garage Floor

When you see a stunning, granite-look epoxy or polyaspartic garage floor in a high-end home, you aren't actually looking at the epoxy itself. You are looking at a dense, overlapping layer of decorative vinyl chips.

What is a "Full Broadcast"?

If you buy a cheap, water-based DIY epoxy kit from a big box hardware store, it usually comes with a tiny bag of flakes. The instructions tell you to sprinkle them lightly over the wet floor like you are salting a steak. This is called a "light broadcast." It looks sparse, cheap, and leaves 95% of the base epoxy exposed to UV damage, hot tires, and scratches.

Professionals like myself exclusively use a Full Broadcast (or "Broadcast to Rejection") system.

1. My crews lay down a colored base coat of epoxy or polyurea.
2. We throw literally hundreds of pounds of Torginol flakes onto the floor until the wet base coat is 100% covered by a thick blanket of dry flakes.
3. Once dry, we scrape off the excess flakes so the floor is relatively smooth.
4. Finally, we seal the flakes permanently with a thick, clear polyaspartic topcoat.

• Domino: A high-contrast, aggressive mix of pure black and white flakes. It looks incredible in garages with black cabinetry, but it can feel a bit "busy" or dizzying in very small spaces.
• Outback: A warm, earthy blend of tans, browns, and blacks. This is the perfect choice if your home's exterior features warm natural stone, red brick, or tan siding.
• Gravel: A slightly darker, grittier gray blend that hides tire marks and winter road salt exceptionally well.
• Nightfall: A predominantly black blend with hints of gray and white, favored by automotive enthusiasts who want a moody, dramatic showroom look.

The Contractor's "Dropped Screw" Warning

There is only one true downside to a beautiful, full-broadcast Torginol floor: it works too well as camouflage.

If you are working on a project and drop a small silver screw, a tiny washer, or a spring onto an Orbit or Domino patterned floor, it will vanish perfectly into the visual noise of the flakes. You will likely spend 10 minutes on your hands and knees looking for it!
